Ho cercato per diverso tempo questa espressione, che letteralmente significherebbe "serbatoio a rimorchio", cosa che, però, qui non avrebbe alcun senso. E visto che tutte le ricerche restituivano solo questo significato, escludendo anche che si tratti di un refuso, dopo molte supposizioni mi è venuto in mente che possa trattarsi di un termine metaforico per indicare semplicemente che il serbatoio si trova subito dietro il motore, come fosse appunto, letteralmente "a traino" dello stesso motore. La, infatti, frase parla chiaramente di una conformazione classica e rigida del telaio («classic "rigid" style»), in cui, come sappiamo, il serbatoio si trova appunto subito dietro al motore.
