English term or phrase: virus-host interaction
Definition from MDPI journals:
Virus-host interaction is defined as how viruses sustain themselves within the host organisms on a molecular, cellular or population level. Virus–host interaction is a complex phenomenon, often virus- and host cell-specific. The dynamic interactions between a virus and its host are critical for the establishment of acute infections and/or the maintenance of persistent infections, and for the manifestation of the disease.

Example sentence(s):
  • A collective view of these multiple studies could advance our understanding of virus-host interactions and provide new therapeutic perspectives for the treatment of viral diseases. Frontiers in Immunology
  • This technology may allow investigators to conduct studies on virus-host interactions which were previously not feasible or affordable, such as the identification of important alternate splice isoforms, miRNA discovery and profiling, and expression profiling in organisms for which a complete genomic sequence has not been determined. National Center for Biotechnology Info
  • Efforts to understand the genetic and molecular basis of virus-host interactions have led to the identification of specific gene products that play key roles in determining the outcome of infections. Journal of Biological Chemistry

viruksen ja isäntäsolun vuorovaikutus

Definition from Pulkkinen, Lauri, Pro gradu 2018:
Isäntäsolujen proteiinit ovat merkittävässä roolissa virusinfektioissa. Virukset hyödyntävät huomattavaa määrää isäntiensä luontaisista ominaisuuksista, ja solut puolustautuvat viruksia vastaan monin tavoin. Virusten ja isäntäsolujen välisten vuorovaikutusten selvittäminen on välttämätöntä virusten biologian ymmärtämiseksi. Näiden vuorovaikutusten tunteminen on myös tärkeää virusinfektioita hoidettaessa.

Example sentence(s):
  • Virusten ja solujen vuorovaikutusten ymmärtäminen on tärkeää taistelussa virustauteja vastaan. Mikko Karjalainen selvitti väitöskirjassaan aivokalvon- ja sydänlihastulehdusta aiheuttavan echovirus 1:n (EV1) tartunnan mekanismeja. Tutkimuksessa selvisi, kuinka virus tunkeutuu soluun ja saa aikaan infektiolle keskeisen uudentyyppisen solurakenteen muodostumisen. - Lääkärilehti
  • Voidakseen lisääntyä ja levitä isäntäeliöstä toiseen, virukset valjastavat isäntäsolunsa biokemiallisen koneiston omaan käyttöönsä. FM Janne Tynell osoittaa väitöskirjatutkimuksessaan, että vakavia hengitystieinfektioita aiheuttavien influenssa- ja koronavirusten lisääntyminen perustuu täsmällisiin viruksen ja isäntäsolun välisiin vuorovaikutuksiin solun eri osissa. - THL
  • Herpesvirustutkimus tarjoaa mahdollisuuden tarkastella viruksen ja isäntäsolun pitkäkestoisia vuorovaikutuksia, sillä tyypillisesti nämä virukset jäävät primaari-infektion jälkeen piilevinä eli latentteina elimistöön. - Duodecim
