English term or phrase: down the bottom
They were in the groove, because they had big hairdo. They had a curry comb stuck down the bottom. They had a red bandanna. They had flared jeans with flowers.

They are talking about group of people in the sixties. It is a bit weird to use curry comb for humans, but that what he said. What he means by"Down the bottom" here? I don't have further context.

Thanks in advance,

Selected answer:stuck in the hair
Explanation:
Is it possible that they're referring to an afro comb? I have no clue whatsoever why they'd call it a curry comb (and how you're supposed to stuck that in your hair) though.

in back pocket

Explanation:
This is a stretch…

…but it was quite common for people to carry a comb in their back pocket.

I wasn’t surprised by his swagger, that redneck stride that announced “better get out of my way,” but I was unprepared to see how young he looked and how tall…. The famous mop of hair was quite noticeable, long on top and wavy, and he had barely gotten in the door when he whipped out a comb from his back pocket and ran it through the peroxided golden locks.

neutral  Yvonne Gallagher: yes, it's possible but it could also be a comb stuck in the big hair

neutral  Daryo: being mentioned after "they had big hairdo" and before "They had a red bandanna" you would expect that it's got something to do with their hair.
