jerry-rig Explanation: To me, it sounds like they think it will eventually lead to jerry-rigging or having to do makeshift alterations to that platform, just to make it work or to keep it running in some reasonable manner (with a limp, very likely). Rautalankaviritys is often literally jerry-rigging something with a wire just to keep it in one piece for a while. Usually until you may (or may not) replace it with a better or the proper solution that you could/should have used or done in the first place. Can refer to (usually) badly done, quick makeshift repairs. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 42 mins (2017-09-06 22:25:15 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- And indeed, in many cases it doesn't mean the literal use of wire for jerry-rigging, of course, but just having to use more and more resources and one support feature after another, just to keep Item X working even at a basic level. jerry-rigged (solution, structure, repairs etc.) Explanation: Jerry-rigging seems to be a good way of expressing the idea in English (also as regards the (in)formality of the expression). Example sentence(s):
