When erotic fire turns into love
The bridges of Madison is a movie where the director Clint Eastwood creates, with a high esthetic sense, a romantic drama for the adult audience, when the majority of the productions target young people and their problems.
The story is about an adult passion, where a photographer, Robert Kincaid, has a three days volcanic romance with Francesca Johnson, an Italian woman who had lived for 20 years in Iowa working in a farm together with her husband and children. It is full of erotic situations. Scenes in the movie are intelligent manipulated by the director in order to avoid the grotesque. For example when Francesca observes Robert having a bath, the camera never shows his full body.
The Italian heritage of Francesca can explain the extra doses of passion of the character, that matches perfectly well with the “macho type” played by Robert who also has a very high spiritual sensitive that turns this fatal attraction into love as the axis of this story.
The movie can be appreciated for those who are in love, and moreover, test their relationships. Francesca’s children tell the story in a way that the spectator knows that a decision has to be taken, and even though the end is predictable, there is always a doubt about Francesca’s final decision. There are times where everything seems to switch and that she will change her life forever. The old lady who starred “Titanic” says at the end of the movie: “ a woman’s heart hides a lot of secrets”. These secrets are part of the encounter that defines characters in life and death.
The bridges of Madison is a great story for every day life which is a long way full of happiness and penury, where you survive penury and enjoy happiness, but at the same time one must remember that all decisions affect not only you but also the beloved.

Cuando el fuego del erotismo se transforma en amor
Los Puentes de Madison es una película donde el director Clint Eastwood elabora, con gran sentido estético, un drama romántico destinado al público adulto, cuando la mayoría de las producciones en el género apuntan a los jóvenes y sus problemáticas.
La historia de esta pasión de adultos, en la cual un fotógrafo, Robert Kincaid, tiene un romance volcánico de tres días con Francesca Johnson, una mujer italiana quien ha vivido por 20 años en Iowa trabajando en una granja junto a su esposo e hijos, está cargada de situaciones eróticas. Las escenas están inteligentemente maniobradas por el director para evitar lo grotesco. Por ejemplo, cuando Francesca observa a Robert bañarse, la cámara jamás enfoca el cuerpo entero.
El origen italiano de Francesca podría explicar la dosis extra de pasión del personaje, el cual encaja perfectamente con el “tipo macho” encarnado en Robert quien además tiene un alto grado de sensibilidad espiritual que provoca que de la atracción fatal surja el amor, que se convierte en el eje del dilema de esta historia.
La película solo puede ser apreciada por aquellos que están enamorados e incluso ir más allá y testear las propias relaciones. Del modo en que se narran los hechos, a través de los hijos de la protagonista, el espectador conoce de antemano que hay que tomar una decisión, y aun sabiendo la respuesta final, existe siempre la duda de que hará Francesca. Por un momento pareciera que todo va a cambiar y que ella modificará su vida para siempre. La anciana que protagonizó Titanic decía sobre el final de la película: “el corazón de una mujer esconde muchos secretos”. Este secreto es parte de ese encuentro que define a los personajes como tales, en la vida y en la muerte.
Los Puentes de Madison es una historia grandiosa para cada día de la vida, que es un largo camino lleno de alegrías y penurias, donde se sobrevive a las penas y se disfruta de las alegrías mientras que al mismo tiempo se recuerde que las decisiones no afectan solo a uno sino también al ser amado.
