I use cutting-edge technology

Here's an example: one Tuesday afternoon, a client sent me a 30,000 word PDF of stained and skewed pages from the Angolan Official Gazette. Not a nice project! I nevertheless used my proprietary approach to create word files, standardise terminology, translate and edit the result. The agency received a clean and formatted English version first thing on Thursday morning.

I have the relevant business background

Before I started translating for a living, I worked for various investment banks as a star rated sell-side equity analyst (My team was rated #5 on Italy by Institutional Investor in 1992 and #3 on Brazil for 1993-1995) and latterly as a head of equity research, conducting interviews with thousands of key executives, mainly in Italy, France, Brazil and Argentina, crunching numbers, producing a constant flow of economic and financial commentary, brokerage research and analysing and putting together deals and IPOs. You don't get this kind of hands-on expertise from doing an MA in translation studies.

I have the relevant academic background

A Masters degree in Natural Sciences from Cambridge with a major in genetics (1988) and a Masters degree in development economics and Finance from the University of London (2003). Currently upgrading AI skills, with Courses in programming in Python (Michigan) and Machine Learning (Stanford).

I have the language skills

I'm a native English speaker (UK) and divide my time between Brazil, Italy, Spain and the UK. I have been writing lucid and fluent English prose for a living for the last 35 years, I speak fluent Portuguese, Italian and French and near fluent Spanish and German and have a basic to intermediate command of 10 other languages. I'm also a published author in the field of linguistics. I also read lots of foreign media and books and pick up on the geopolitical issues which the English-language media tends to miss.

And last, but not least:

I only work with a small number of great clients
