The new scenes radically cut back on the interactions between Ben, Tom, and Dennis, greatly enlarged Goldoni’s role, clarified the narrative by adding transitional material, removed objectionable references (though Goldoni’s “I didn’t know it [i.e., losing her virginity] could be so awful” in the post-coital scene still “crosses lines” that studio productions of that era, or our own for that matter, have not dared to cross), removed a number of scenes where the voices had had to be looped (most glaringly a long scene where Tony brings Lelia back to his apartment and they talk, in which Gena Rowlands dubbed Lelia’s voice since Goldoni was not available) and, in a series of studio recording sessions, replaced some of the most prominent unlicensed music with new music (though, as I noted above, Cassavetes retained a few of the original unlicensed pieces in this version of the film as well).
