Just a cultural explanation In the US there is a tradition of wearing "ugly" sweaters during Christmas, there are even themed parties and competitions. As you can see, the crew necks on your link combine the NFL logos with Christmas (Pine trees and snow flakes), these is why the are called "Ugly". Don't know if you want to keep that same reference in Spanish...

Según el enlace, parece que ugly estaría relacionado con sweater y no con el tipo de cuello.

En mi opinión, omitiría la connotación "hortera" del modelito, a menos que se pudiera llevar por la vertiente friki, "los frikis de la navidad y el fútbol americano".
