A small representation of a picture on a Web page, usually containing a hyperlink to a full-size version of the graphic. Thumbnails are used to load pages rich in graphics or pictures more quickly in a Web browser.

多数の画像を一覧表示するために縮小された画像。本来は「親指(thumb)の爪(nail)」という意味。画像編集ソフトの多くがサムネイル作成機能を持っており、ディスクから読みこむ画像を選択する際などに表示される。画像ファイルが増えてくると名前だけでは判別しづらいため、大雑把に絵柄が分かるサムネイルの存在は便利である。また、インターネットでは回線速度が遅いと画像表示に時間がかかるため、ファイルサイズの小さいサムネイルで大体の絵柄を提示してから、本来の大きさで表示するかどうか選ばせるという手法がよく用いられる。なお、その場合、サムネイルをクリックすると本来の大きさの画像が表示されるようになっていることが多い。

| get copied again and again (this ST is a typical content for Articles of Association/Incorporation); rarely anyone bothers to check if all the clauses still make sense, so you end up with "archaeological layers" of terms no one is using any longer, as is this one. All references I could find about concrete "joint purse arrangement" are historical one - no one seems to be using this term any longer nowadays! (Except when copying again and again very old formulation for clauses in Articles of Association!) |
