Most people dismiss the expression \"beaten with an ugly stick\" as a hackneyed expression, nothing more - but here\'s fresh proof. Apparently, it\'s about an inch in diameter, lightweight, and flexible enough to swat someone about six times before they cover up.
One question remains: is the \"ugly stick\" used to beat people until they\'re ugly, or because they\'re ugly?
A bit of inferences, these welts could easily be covered with a double-layer of foundation or morphed out with digital-imaging software, and the result would be a portrait that would still be, well, a bit south of \"ordinary-looking.\"
Thus, our conclusions:
1. There is, indeed, such a thing as an ugly stick
2. It\'s used to thwack people as a punishment for being unsightly.
