Spanish term

armado de motor

Spanish to English Tech/Engineering Aerospace / Aviation / Space remotely powered aircraft (RPA)
This document is about Flight Synthetic Training Devices (FSTD - flight simulation) for remotely powered aircraft (RPA). This subsection is on flight controls, specifically whether those in the FSTD match those in the RPA to be flown by the pilot. Original doc is from Spain --> British English.

Context: "Controles de funciones con impacto en la seguridad (ej. armado de motor, inicio/interrupción de RTH, sistema de terminación del vuelo)"

My working term at this point is "engine power-up" or something along those lines, but I'm not completely confident.

Many thanks in advance.

Discussion

Robert Carter Mar 15, 2019:
@Nedra I had the word "standby" in my head for some reason here, then it occurred to me that it might be worth looking at a preflight checklist to see if anything looks similar.
I found this one for a Boeing 747:

POWER UP / SAFETY CHECK
First Officer... ... ... ... ... ...... ... ... ... ... ... Captain
CIRCUITBREAKERS...... ... ... ... ... ... ...CHECKED
BATTERY... ... ... ... ... ...... ... ... ... ... ... ..ON
STANDBY POWER... ... ... ... ... ...... ..AUTO

Now I'm even more confused!

By the way, I agree with you 100% about "assembly" here, it's hardly something a pilot would be doing before take-off.

Nedra Rivera Huntington (asker) Mar 15, 2019:
not "assembly" in this context Further clarification: As the context is a flight simulator, while "engine/motor assembly" might be the correct answer in another document, it does not seem right here. I don't think it seems logical as something a pilot would do in a simulation, especially not with the flight controls. Also, it does not go with the other items on the list (return-to-home and flight termination systems).

Could it not be the engine assembly?

Hi Nedra, yes, I must admit the cognate didn't occur to me either until I checked one of my technical dictionaries, but I think you've instinctively understood it with "power-up". I'll post a tentative answer then. Thank you!
Nedra Rivera Huntington (asker) Mar 14, 2019:
arm the motor Hi, Robert. I'm thinking "arm" might be best. (Why oh why do I never opt for the literal translation?!) It shows up on a few UAV-related sites if I use "motor" rather than "engine." Could you please submit an answer so I can pick yours if nobody comes up with a more definitive one? Thanks!
Nedra Rivera Huntington (asker) Mar 14, 2019:
pilot Given that this is about flight simulation for pilots and the other items on the list, I feel like "armado de motor" is most likely something the pilot would do, rather than a technician or engineer. I will investigate "engine arming." Thanks to both of you.
Rick Larg Mar 14, 2019:
Maybe, more along the lines of engine assembly? https://www.google.com/search?q=que es armar un motor&rlz=1C...
Robert Carter Mar 14, 2019:
Hi Nedra. I'm thinking perhaps "engine arming" here, but so far I've only found references to rocket engines.

arming the engine/motor

I'm posting this per the discussion, but I'm not too sure about it as most references relate to rockets, kind of like arming a missile I suppose.

Here's a reference to "arming a motor" regarding a remote-controlled aircraft, but I don't know what it relates to exactly:
My Eflight 25 watt ESC is acting up it won't arm the motor. I have a 4 channel Futaba radio and have the throttle channel reversed.

Note from asker:
While this would most likely work in another context, in mine (something the pilot does in pre-flight), it seems unlikely. Thanks!
