Jornada is usually working day, but in the case of guards, I would say "at the end of each guard shift", "when the guards finish a shift", or "when they come off shift", etc

I agree that guard is not totally necessary, BUT, guardia is often used as in "hacer guardias" (in the mili), with the idea of a guard, guarding something, so for jornada de guardia, I want to include the word guard
