Source text - Spanish LOS ENSUEÑOS Ramón Sampedro
Mar adentro, mar adentro,
y en la ingravidez del fondo,
donde se cumplen los sueños,
se juntan dos voluntades
para cumplir un deseo.
Un beso enciende la vida
con un relámpago y un trueno,
y en una metamorfosis
mi cuerpo no era ya mi cuerpo;
era como penetrar al centro
del universo:
El abrazo más pueril,
y el más puro de los besos,
hasta vernos reducidos
en un único deseo:
Su mirada y mi mirada
como un eco repitiendo, sin palabras:
más adentro, más adentro,
hasta el más allá del todo
por la sangre y por los huesos.
Pero me despierto siempre
y siempre quiero estar muerto
para seguir con mi boca
enredada en sus cabellos.
Translation - English REVERIES Ramón Sampedro
In to sea, in to sea,
and at the lightness of the bottom,
where dreams become real,
two wills come together
to make a wish come true.
A kiss turns life on
with lightning and thunder,
and in a sudden change
my body was no longer mine;
as if I had gone deep into the center
of the universe:
The most childish hug,
and the purest of kisses,
till we see ourselves reduced
in one single wish:
Her stare and my stare
repeating like an echo without words:
in too deep, in too deep
all the way to the end
through my blood and through my bones.
But I wake up every time
and every time I want to die
so that I can keep my mouth
tangled within her hair.

Derin deniz, derin deniz,
rüyaların gerçekleştiği,
dibindeki yerçekimsizlikte,
bir dileği gerçekleştirmek üzere
iki amaç birleşir.
Bir öpücük hayat verir
şimşek ve gökgürültüsü ile,
ve bir dönüşümde
bedenim artık bedenim değildi;
evrenin merkezine girmek gibiydi:
En çocukça sarılma,
ve öpücüklerin en safı,
kendimizin tek bir arzu haline geldiğini
görünceye dek:
Onun bakışı ve benim bakışım
sözsüz bir yankı gibi tekrarlanarak:
daha derin, daha derin,
kanımızda ve kemiklerimizde
bütünün sonuna kadar.
Ama her zaman uyanırım
ve saçlarına dolanan
ağzımla kalmak için
hep ölü olmak isterim.

Cuando la tormenta pase
Y se amansen los caminos
Y seamos sobrevivientes
De un naufragio colectivo
Con el corazón lloroso
Y el destino bendecido
Nos sentiremos dichosos
Tan sólo por estar vivos.
Y le daremos un abrazo
Al primer desconocido
Y alabaremos la suerte
De conservar un amigo.
Y entonces recordaremos
Y siempre estuvo a tu lado
Y quizás el viejo pobre
Era tu Dios disfrazado.
Nunca preguntaste el nombre
Porque estabas apurado
Y todo será un milagro
Y todo será un legado
Y se respetará la vida,
La vida que hemos ganado
Cuando la tormenta pase
Te pido Dios, apenado,
Que nos devuelvas mejores,
Como nos habías soñado

Fırtına geçtiğinde
Yollar sakinleştiğinde
Ve toplu bir enkazdan
Sağ kaldığımızda
Ağlayan yüreğimizle
Ve kutsanmış kaderimizle
Sırf hayattayız diye
Ne mutlu bize diyeceğiz
Ve ilk yabancıya
Sıkıca sarılacağız
Ve dostumuzu tutunca
Şansımıza tapacağız
Ve kaybettiğimiz her şeyi
O zaman hatırlayacağız
Ve öğrenmediğimiz şeyleri
Hemen öğrenmiş olacağız
Kıskançlığımız olmayacak
Zira herkes acı çekmiş olacak
Tembelliğimiz de olmayacak
Daha şefkatli olacağız
Asla kazanmadığımız değil
Ortak olan kıymetli olacak
Daha cömert olacağız
Ve daha çok sözümüzü tutacağız
Hayatta olmanın ne kadar
Kırılgan olduğunu anlayacağız
Empati akacak üstümüzden
Hem kalan için hem de giden
Pazarda bir lira isteyen
İhtiyarı özleyeceğiz
Hep senin yanındaydı ama
İsmini bilemeyeceğiz
Ve belki o fakir ihtiyar
Senin gizli tanrındı
İsmini sormadın
Çünkü hep acelen vardı
Ve her şey mucize sayılacak
Ve her şey miras olacak
Ve hayata saygı duyulacak
Kazandığımız bu hayata
Fırtına geçtiğinde, Tanrı
Hüzünle senden istiyorum ki
Bizi daha iyi geri getir
Hep hayal ettiğin gibi
I was born in 1962 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I have high school degrees from American and Argentine schools. I have a BS in architecture from the University of Maryland and a master's degree in architecture from Çukurova University. I have been living in Turkey since 1985. I worked for foreign and Turkish firms and taught architecture in English and in Turkish. I wrote articles in Turkish for an architecture magazine and in Spanish for a bilingual publication. Even though my native language is Spanish, I am just as comfortable with English and Turkish.
