Cranes are definately one of them. When Korea was Chosun Kingdom, they were often used as a symbol of scholarship and purity--an epitome of confucius ideal. The garbs of government officials were adorned with the emboridery depicting this animal. You will find cranes in many Korean celadon potteries as well.

This bird appears in many insignia and seals of present South Korean government alongside the image of a rose of Sharon, which is Korea's national flower, and I think magpie is Seoul's official city bird. Also, many ancient paintings from Korea and Japan depict a three-legged crow. Even before the time of the confucius kingdom, Chosun, people in Korean peninsular liked adorning their clothing articles with feathers, like American Indians did. Facinating stuff.

事实上，龙芯进军国际市场早有打算。据中科院计算技术研究所所长李国杰院士透露，作为中国自主创新的品牌，业界知名的半导体巨头意法半导体公司已经购买了龙芯2E的生产和全球销售权。
李国杰指出，龙芯2E在法国流片成功以后，中科院计算所和意法半导体公司签订技术许可协议，该公司计划每年销售龙芯芯片1000万片以上。（临川）

Translation work must be full of funny jokes like this.
All along I thought "Godson" meant 干儿子, and was curious as to why such an awful name in Chinese.
Yes, God's son can mean 天子, but aren't we leaving out a critical possessive letter 's?

正好讲到翻译过程中文化意象的歪曲和失落，我也想起了这个例子，要是事先来这里看过， 那我的presentation就会充实多了。。唉，相见恨晚阿！我觉得嘛，译名这东西有太多偶然性，专家说了不一定能算阿。。专家还不愿意fans变成粉丝呢，可是这不也一样，堂堂正正地发生了？

中国的一些学者关于中国究竟还要不要龙作为图腾的一番观点，在网络上掀起激烈辩论。
一些学者表示，中国人与西方人对龙有着非常不同概念。
中国龙是一个超自然的图腾，并不带有西方龙那种喷火，凶猛异常，破坏力极大的特点。
由上海外国语大学党委书记、上海市公共关系学会副会长吴友富教授领衔，重新建构和向世界展示中国国家形象品牌的重要研究，已正式被列入上海市哲学社会科学规划课题立项。
他认为，西方对龙的看法有可能使人们产生对中国的负面印象。
但是QQ网络调查数据显示：在165639总投票数中，89.30％投票者不同意改变中国“龙”标志，仅仅3.77％赞成更换中国形象标志，重新思考民族象征的内涵。
官方新华社引述中华龙凤文化研究中心主任庞进的话说，东西方龙的图腾不应该混为一谈。
他还表示，西方文化中的龙的地位较低，但是中国龙现正着繁荣和吉祥。
一些学者提出建议，让讲英语的人士使用“Long"来替代“dragon”，以便区分中国龙和西方龙。
据报，中国政府已经决定不使用龙作为2008年北京奥运的吉祥物，主要是因为龙在西方文化中有不吉祥的象征。
最终，北京选择了5个奥运吉祥物：熊猫、西藏羚羊、鱼和奥运火炬。
学者们认为，中国龙完全与西方民间传说中的喷火恶龙不一样。中国龙的主要任务是播撒生命雨露，来制造和谐。

又是上海人搞出来的东西，怎么这么贱呀，你不用改，100年后，中国真正强大了，这些上海人崇拜的西方人可能个个都认为龙图腾是中华民族想象力的绝妙结晶。
