各队由十一名队员组成。根据各人的特长，每个选手可以被分为“击球手”（batsman）和“投球手”（bowler）。攻守兼备的队伍一般由五到六名击球手和四到五名投球手组成。击球和投球都非常优秀的人则称为“全能手”（all-rounder）。投球的一方中有一名处于特殊接球位置的球员，被称作“守门手”（wicket-keeper）。

Cricket is a complicated game played with wooden bats and a leather ball. Each team bats (= hits the ball) for an innings, trying to score runs, while the other team bowls (= throws the ball) and fields (= tries to catch or stop the ball after it has been hit). Their aim is to get the batsman out for as few runs as possible.
