German term

Stollen

German to English Art/Literary Games / Video Games / Gaming / Casino
From a 1941 letter, written in Vienna, Austria:

I can't find any reference to such a game. Any ideas?

Discussion

philgoddard Jul 28, 2023:
Thanks, Björn Fünfterstein = fivestones, which is another name for jacks.
Björn Vrooman Jul 28, 2023:
Not entirely sure "Fünfterstein oder Stollenspiel

Mainly Austria, apparently. There are several references like this one.

One meaning is studs on the sole of a boot. I wonder if it could be jacks (which is normally called by its English name in German), or something similar played with small metal objects.
