platform box
A box usually arranged under the wagon platform between two wagons where braking mechanisms are stored that cannot be left in the open (e.g., control system). The platform is the area bewteen two wagons. Note that this area is different depending on whether we are talking of passenger or freight wagons. In the former, the platform is usually part of the corridor, in the latter, it is often a standing platform with rails.

Dutch term (edited):
balkon
standing area
The 'balkon' is the part of the train around the door area which provides standing room and sometimes additional seating (e.g. folding seats). Presumably part of your braking system is located in a cupboard in this area.
