Too late to help I'm afraid, but the expression "child" in an inventory management procedure is most likely referred to a heirarchical sublevel. In this context I have frequently found the expression "figlio" in Italian. I guess "band" could be either "band" or "fascia".
As for "overlay", I would keep it literal and go for "sovrapposizione" oppure "banda/fascia sovvraposta".
