What is the world coming to?
A very common British expression

Comment: "Not as colourful as the Finnish expression of course, but it suits the context perfectly. Maybe I should have given more context: we are talking about a madman who turns normal for a few seconds. This is followed by the question: "Ovatko maailmankirjat lopullisesti sekaisin?" Nothing quite catches the irony the way "What is the world coming to?" does."

Has the whole world gone mad?
This is the first idiomatic expression that comes to my mind - there might be others.
