I agree that the primary meaning of \"commune\" in the English language (a small group of persons living together, sharing possessions, work, income, etc., and often pursuing unconventional lifestyles) may create some confusion. However, once you explain that this is similar to the smallest administrative division in France, Italy, Switzerland, etc., governed by a mayor and communal council, the term should no longer be confusing.
