Source text - Spanish En la región destaca SOS Telemedicina para Venezuela, de la Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV), que implementa una red de telemedicina que equipa y conecta centros de atención primaria de salud con médicos especialistas de la UCV para mejorar su capacidad resolutiva, educar a distancia, transferir tecnologías a las regiones, desarrollar capacidades y evaluar los beneficios de la telemedicina en el país.
Luego de tres años de implementación ha logrado tener un programa claramente conceptualizado, una red social de apoyo, financiamiento, un equipo profesional multidisciplinario calificado, una red de telemedicina en expansión con 28 centros de atención primaria de salud (ambulatorios) dotados y conectados con la Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad Central de Venezuela a mayo de 2011.
El programa ha logrado demostrar que la telemedicina se constituye como una alternativa, y en muchos casos la única opción para ofrecer apoyo médico general y especializado a distancia, así como un medio de educación continua, que apoya a los profesionales de la salud en su tarea de proporcionar una atención en salud de calidad, oportuna y con equidad.
@LIS2 ha identificado esta iniciativa –entre otras- como una buena práctica, factible de ser replicada en otros países.
Translation - English One notable programme in the region is the SOS Telemedicine for Venezuela of the Faculty of Medicine of the Central University of Venezuela (UCV), which has set up a telemedicine network that equips primary care centres and connects them with UCV medical specialists. The scheme aims to improve the capacity of primary care centres to deal with problems, provide distance education, transfer technology to the regions, develop skills and evaluate the benefits of telemedicine in the country.
Achievements three years into the programme are: a clearly conceptualized programme, a social support network, financing, a qualified multidisciplinary team, a growing telemedicine network with 28 primary health centres (outpatient clinics) provided by and connected to the Faculty of Medicine of the Central University of Venezuela by May 2011.
The programme shows that telemedicine is an alternative, and in many cases the only option for providing general medical and specialized support at a distance, as well as continuing education, which helps health professionals to provide quality and timely health care on an equitable basis.
@LIS2 has identified this initiative —among others— as a best practice which could readily be replicated in other countries.
