We are pleased to announce the release of some new improvements to ProZ.com Connect, in response to feedback from users of this new platform.
Enhanced vendor management
The ability to manage your own vendor data securely and privately within ProZ.com Connect has been enhanced. It is now possible to see the availability of your vendors, when they have reported it. It is also possible to manage more vendor data (including detailed rates information) and to define your own custom fields so you can manage the data that is important to your organization. (If you already have Connect access, click here to access your vendor database: http://www.proz.com/employers/vendors )
Faster candidate management
It is now possible to accept, decline, prioritize, and add or remove candidates from your evaluation lists dynamically (using time-saving Web 2.0 techniques), without requiring the entire page to be reloaded. This makes it much faster to manage candidates, especially with larger candidate pools. To manage candidates, start at your dashboard and click "candidates" next to the desired need or project.
Expanded job posting options
More guidance is now provided when posting a job, and it is much easier to describe your job in more detail. To post a job, start at your dashboard and click "Post a job" next to the desired need or project.
Translator Profile eXchange specification (TPX) extended
Translator Profile eXchange is a proposed XML standard for the exchange of profile data for translators and interpreters. In response to feedback from members of the TPX working group, we have extended the TPX specification and enhanced the Connect API. Sneak preview: new need/project definition page (beta)
Efforts are underway to streamline the process of defining a new need or project, and to make the process as quick and intuitive as possible. A preview of the next version of this page is now available--please try it out and let us know how it could be improved. The whole language of Connect sounds to me like a glorified cattle market. Every time I come to proz.com, my stomach turns over at the phrase "Source translators fast and easy" (in the top right corner of the welcome screen).
Looking into the full advertising blurb, I find that the Connect project wants to "source me and manage me".
Is there any corner of this globe where native speakers of English really talk like that, where human beings are regarded as capital asset... The use of "source" as a verb is not real English anyway.
The "Connect!" concept is not my favourite element of ProZ, but it would help if it were at least explained in plain English.

It took me ages to realise that "fast and easy" were not supposed to be 'adverbs' ('cos they ain't) qualifying the 'verb' "source", but were intended as adjectives to describe Connect itself.
At least, I think that's what it's supposed to mean - it is, as my physics teacher used to say, as clear as mud.
But given that "trainings" is now a plural according to Proz, who knows if my analysis is correct or not....

Yes, another pet hate, and an example of bad non-English used by the ProZ marketing experts.
However, considering that ProZ seems to recruit its marketers mainly from an outfit that can't even get its photographs the right way round (http://tinyurl.com/33n5y7), perhaps we should be thankful that the blurb at least looks like English.

This may well be the jargon that is current in this field, and project managers at ProZ corporate members may understand it. I didn't. I intended to read it carefully but couldn't make it through to the end.

Could you somehow find a compromise between jargon and good writing? Meanwhile, please add a word like "lists" or "files" or "data"--"manage candidate data," not "manage candidates."

I could not agree with you more, Victor. I feel uneasy about Connect and can't see the benefit for the translator. It seems to me that it's geared towards large businesses that can no longer manage their databases consisting of 20000 translators, their main concern being finding out about low prices. I do not wish to be included in some large agency’s database without myself knowing it.

I've received fantastic job offers through Connect like “We are looking for an interpreter in London.” (I live in the north of Scotland and don't offer interpreting services). I very much enjoy receiving direct e-mails from clients through my profile enquiring about my services as it gives me a chance to establish a relationship with them. Connect does not seem to have this in mind. I feel it is rather about managing - well – cattle. ▲ Collapse

Well, as I'm not a paying user, maybe other users may think I can't express my ideas, but what I really feel, is that Proz is getting far from the "Community focus". It's been more like a real business with lots od marketing phrases showing "world's largest community", "fast and easy"...
Of course, a business needs money and marketing to survive, but free users don't have "a place" like in the "old times of Proz". It seems that most jobs posted are always to "Platinum" members. I can say that Portuguese/English translators (at least from Brazil) are not so satisfied. Hardly ever they get a job posted here.
