El texto hace alusión a las cualidades musicales de los músicos en cuestión, nombrando la "afinación" como una de ellas. Esto se refiera no a la afinación de un instrumento (tuning) si no a una "buena afinación", me parece. Quizá haya que complementar "tuning" o buscar un término específico que se refiera a "la capacidad de ser afinado/antonado" o de producir sonidos con afinación.

A singer has "perfect pitch" if they can sing a specific note to order (in other words they don't need a tuning fork to pitch the correct note of a manuscript).
If someone is just good at keeping in tune without accompaniment (i.e. they don't start to drift/go flat or sharp) then they have good tuning, and they are able to sing in tune, or to keep in tune.
These phrases are perhaps British English and not global, but they are the language that I have always used as a choral singer.

Discussion
The fact that they are playing or singing in tune does seem to be the issue, but it may also be a matter of the way their voices/instruments work together as well as being individually in tune. In choirs, we talk about whether certain voices sit well together, and try out various combinations to decide exactly how the singers should be distributed.
