I found out that an open carriage is a horse-drawn thing.
But I don't think that's what I need.
Could it be some kind of modern automobile?

a railway acrriage that is not divided into compartments
If this is a railway context, that would be the meaning AFAIK.
The word 'carriage' is very rarely used for any kind of transport other than railways or horse-drawn, except in things like a typerwiter carriage, etc.

convertible
Would really need more context, but are you not just dealing with 'convertible' (or a cabriolet)?

Then, 'convertible' would be my guess. Though, and this is of course a guess, it may also refer to mileage permitted or something - 'open carriage' being 'unlimited mileage' ... Sorry if I'm only confusing the issue further.
