Spanish to English translations [PRO]
Medical - Medical (general)
Spanish term or phrase: Abordaje/Tratamiento socio-sanitario
About the cost-effectiveness of treatments for osteoporosis.

"El abordaje no puede ser solo farmacológico, sino socio-sanitario."

and

"Hay que investigar si el tratamiento socio-sanitario actual de la osteoporosis es realmente costo-efectivo".

Does anyone have any good ideas about how to translate "socio-sanitario" in this context? I have seen "socio-health care/healthcare" or "social health care/healthcare" used a few times, but not in the same way as in the Spanish (i.e. social healthcare treatment of...).

Many thanks, H.

English translation:social and public health approach OR: social(/) public health approach... OR: socio-public healt
Explanation:
The problem is that "sanitary" in English doesn't imply what's meant here--namely, 'public health'. I have more than 30 years' experience translating public health documents, and we do NOT use 'sanitary' in English when we mean 'public health'.

The most common expression is "social and public health" (425,000 references), followed by "social public health (15,900 references). Also, some authors have use the expression "socio-public health."

In the end I contacted a friend specialised in Health Economics and he said he would use "social and health care approach" so that is what I used. I fully agree "sanitary" has a different meaning here. Thanks to all. H.

I wonder whether the use of "community" in this way is a UK Eng. thing.
