English term

Home page

English to Czech Tech/Engineering Internet, e-Commerce
I am re-designing a web site that includes both Czech and English versions. I am not a Czech translator and, in general, I am not changing the Czech content at all. However, because I have changed the navigation structure of the site I need a "Home" link in the main menu. I need a word for "home page" in Czech, or, more specifically, a word that would normally be used in a web page menu to route people back to the home page.

Discussion

Jana Bedanova Aug 26, 2009:
It seems pretty clear to me "I need a "Home" link in the main menu....more specifically, a word that would normally be used in a web page menu to route people back to the home page." Word that is normally used for "Home" in this context is "Domů" - as for a button or a link. "Domovská stránka" is also good and it is a literal translation, but I think in a context of a link "Domů" is used more often.
jankaisler Aug 26, 2009:
The question is "What is the question?" And that is "home page".

Doporučuji číst zadání: I need a "Home" link in the main menu // I need a word for "home page" in Czech, or, more specifically, a word that would normally be used in a web page menu to route people back to the home page.
agree Jana Bedanova : definitely as a home link - "Domů" - commonly used, everyone understands this.

děkuji :)
agree Hynek Palatin : Domů (with capital D) is the word that would normally be used in a web page menu to route people back to the home page. It does not mean "Home page", though.

děkuji, agree, capitalization is also ok, but who knows, lower case is also a nice style on websites...

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks everyone for your help. This was my first time using kudoz and I'm very impressed with how quickly I got an answer. Thanks also to those of you who gave me a general word for "home page". That is useful also. I should have made it clear from the start that I wanted a "Home" button."

Dík Blanko!
neutral Jana Bedanova : Proč tam máte v závorce tu angličtinu? To se mi v nabídkové liště zdá trochu nesmyslné...

Another, IMHO "more Czech" variant

disagree Jana Bedanova : Not in this context

I think that it is OK, *especially* in this context. It should be a translation of a link leading to the home (main) page
