Without more context is not completely clear that you can do this but, given the meaning of "cast" in such context - lançar, transportar, levar, etc. - you can try do make the sentence more "light" or "fluent" in the idea by translating the sentence like (note that, the way you initiate the sentence depends the previous context, wgich I don't have available):
"(Esta é) uma viagem pelo (por aquilo/ao) que nos é familiar"
