It's a way of referring to what they've written about previously. Here's the document

Case 1
blah blah blah auto-scoring is not turned on

If the case was discussed afterwards, it would say "case 1, below".
Note that there should be a comma after Case 1, and I would capitalise Case too.

I think it might just be an unfamiliar usage or something. Not having the comma before above makes a difference, too
