"It’s beyond me what I must do to make them realize that I’m neither object nor possession."
Nella mia traduzione: "Non riuscivo a capire cosa avrei dovuto fare per ragguagliarli sul fatto che non ero né un oggetto, né una proprietà", la punta di fastidio si nota solo nel uso di ragguagliarli (o informarli del fatto).
Mi rimane quel "it's beyond me. Tradotto così mi pare di che sia lei in difetto, quella che non capisce. La scema di turno ecco! :)

Secondo me il personaggio usa un'iperbole proprio per esprimere risentimento e impotenza.
