English term

per nasal cannula

English Medical Medical: Health Care
On 20 Nov 2016, the relevant laboratory results included blood oxygen saturation level (SpO2) in the 70’s with the subject on oxygen 6.5 liters per nasal cannula. The subject\'s SpO2 was at 90% at rest on 10.5 liters of oxygen per nasal cannula.

Does "per' means "by" or "each"?
Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (2): Edith Kelly, Yvonne Gallagher

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

by nasal cannula

Or "via". 10.5 liters per cannula over multiple cannulae would be sound excessive.

agree philgoddard : I agree that "per" is ambiguous, hence the question, but I think this has to be the meaning.

agree Charles Davis : Use of Latin "per" referring to route of administration is normal (per os, per nose, per rectum...)

via each (NC) device (placed in nostrils) for delivering (supplemental) oxygen or increased airflow

neutral philgoddard : I'm not a medic, but I don't think you'd have more than one, would you?

I didn't say there were 2 devices. "per" =each device i.e. ONE NC BUT it's split into 2 prongs, one of which goes into each nostril. I think the link is quite clear.
