rumo/u/r-mongering

I stand corrected, but rumour-mongering - see the example sentence - connotes false info. and stories, such ones put about at my school in the South of England: ' 'a stuffy British teacher of French & history is going to be making a guest appearance on a British TV pop & rock music programme - Juke Box Jury. Spread it..'.
Example sentence:

A rumour-monger who spread fake news that five persons of the temple town Nanjangud had tested positive for Covid-19.
