Arabic term

الدروس البصریة

Arabic to English Art/Literary Linguistics Syria
Hi everyone,

I am translating a story by a Syrian author about a couple who have children with disabilities. I am wondering if this term means "sign language lessons" or if it means that the lesson the girl receives at school are taught by a teacher who uses sign language themselves.

تسافر ماریانا كل یومٍ إلى المدینة، تتعلّم الدروس البصریة، وتستعین بجهاز السمع یوصل إلیها ذبذبات الكمان في درس الموسیقى

Many thanks!

lesson of sign language

It refers to lessons for pupils who are deaf or hard of hearing.

neutral Lamine Boukabour : جاء في السياق: تستعين بجهاز السمع، فلا أظنها دروس للصُّم.

visually aided lessons

Hello,

What you share in Arabic tells me that we know that there's something visual and nothing tells us that a sign language is involved. However, a visual lesson is not a term. It just emphasizes the visual element in delivering the lesson. So, feel free to translate it differently based on your knowledge of the context. .

Good luck.
