Dutch term

dadendrang

Non-PRO Dutch to English Other General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters
Hello!

I am translating a report on the food industry and there is a section that focuses on how the catering industry is repositioning itself. Digitization is one aspect, and this is one of the sentences that introduces the idea: "Ook is de weg van digitalisering met veel dadendrang ingeslagen".

My question is whether anyone has a suggestion of how to translate **dadendrang** in this context.

Looking forward to your ideas! :)

Michael Beijer Jul 7, 2022:
note on digitisation vs digitalisation btw, watch out with digitisation/digitalisation, as there is a difference in meaning:

• digitisation (scanning documents, etc.)
• digitalisation (entire company/processes, etc.)

I have seen it translated this way many times and like it because it is short, sweet and does the job.

go all out for

Ook is de weg van digitalisering met veel dadendrang ingeslagen

[The industry] has gone all out for digitalisation as well.

But digitalisation also satisfies new customer needs, such as digital delivery platforms like Picnic, which deliver purchases directly to the customer’s home. But digitalisation encompasses more than just omnichannel retail – it optimises the sales approach, the customer journey and, above all, customer loyalty. P&C Düsseldorf is going all out for digitalisation, especially when it comes to customer loyalty.

If you go all out to do something or go all out for something, you make the greatest possible effort to do it or get it.

flying start

Eens met Michael (zie D-box) dat 'digitization' en 'digitalization' twee verschillende dingen zijn. In het laatste verband wordt ook vaak gesproken over de 'digitalization journey', zeker als het om afzonderlijke bedrijven gaat.

Ik zou het geheel iets vrijer vertalen, bijvoorbeeld:

De weg van digitalisering is ook met daadkracht ingeslagen.

The industry's digitalization journey is also off to a flying start.
