Comparing Fangs, Tusks, and **Chompers**

Et dans mon texte :
Kittens are born without any teeth, but they will soon start to develop mean fangs and **chompers**.
Kittens are born toothless, but soon after they start to develop mean fangs and **chompers**.

Seeing as "chompers" is slang for teeth, I suggest using an equivalent slang word for teeth in French. I didn't write "crocs" here since the word "fangs" is already used in this excerpt, so I looked for another translation. I think this one matches the tone of this audio book, which seems to be aimed at children.

→ https://ziggyfamily.com/blogs/chats/pourquoi-et-comment-pren...

chocottes

Explanation:
Splitting hairs here … 'Chompers' can indeed be translated by 'quenottes', both being terms for teeth in general. But here a distinction is drawn between 'fangs' and 'chompers', the suggestion being that it is the 'chompers' that do the chewing.
Quand on claque des dents it is the same 'chompers' that make the noise, as a rule. Chattering the incisors can only ever be a half-hearted attempt at chattering of the teeth. Tooth chattering is primarily a reaction to cold, but also to fear. And when teeth chatter out of fear, on a les chocottes, i.e. those back teeth are doing their thing. So a distinction can be drawn between 'fangs' or crocs and 'chompers' or chocottes.

That said, I don't know I've ever seen a cat, much less a kitten, with chattering teeth.

[redoutables] crocs

Explanation:
