Dye penetrant testing
A variety of non-destructive test equipment can be used to assist as inspection aids. The most practical and user friendly is dye penetrant testing: It consists of 3 cans of spray, namely the cleaner, the penetrant, and the developer (blotter). It is sprayed directly onto the test piece and the colour difference will indicate the defects (defects – crack / pores / laps / pits, etc). This method is widely used for inspection for cracks on steam cylinders / caustic vessels, ***brew house vessels***, specifically to locate stress corrosion cracking. It is especially good on stainless steels.
