You will perform this test at least 2 times stopping between each completed step.
Please follow the instructions of the therapist.
They will give you instructions and guide you for each step.
Timing is essential for each step.
Perform each step below when the therapist tells you to:
Purse your lips (purse or pucker your lips as if you were going to whistle and breathe out) tightly around the mouthpiece.
This ensures that you maintain a seal so air does not come out.
Breathe normally (like you usually do).
Take 3 to 4 breaths.
Breathe out fast without flaring your cheeks outward.
If you cannot stop your cheeks from flaring, then place your hands and fingers against your cheeks and continue breathing out.
Be aware that a shutter will close (**like a door shutting in your face**).
Breathe normally.
Breathe in fast and deep.
Breathe out in a long continuous breath.
If this is hard for you to do, please breathe out for as long as you can.
Repeat steps 1-7 two (2) more times as instructed.
