Middle Byzantine period (7th-12th century)
Ιn the 8th century Epiros **was incorporated** in the Patriarchate of Constantinople. At the end of the 9th century, the theme of Nikopolis was created, and henceforth the whole of Epiros belonged to it for administrative and ecclesiastical purposes, with a new capital at Naupaktos.
