Bio
I am a Russian/British author, translator and journalist.

I have been initiated into the wonderful field of Translation at the Moscow State University: not only did we have to translate extracts from books to use in our papers, I also ended up translating a 16th c. English text for my MA thesis (2002). There was also a course in Literary Translation from French into Russian that also helped to ignite the interest and to learn the necessary skills.

I then went on to do an MA at the University of Manchester (2004). My dissertation was a textual analysis of the first English translation of an extract from Livy's Ab Urbe Condita, published in London in 1551. I analysed the Latin text, its 16th translation, and a contemporary Italian translation, to unravel a painstaking English translator's effort to place Livy in the context of contemporary English history by carefully modifying the Latin text.

I continue taking an academic interest in Translation and currently work on a project dedicated to translations of the work of William Shakespeare.

Speaking of "business of translation", since 2003 I have regularly worked for a variety of clients, including academic journals, blue chip companies, and media. Quite often I had to work both as a translator and an interpreter, thus taking the command of English to a native speaker's level. The projects I did directly for clients and through the agency were commissioned by the likes of BBC, Radisson Blu, Skype, Saxo Bank, The Herald of Europe, Mir Peremen, TVOE, and others. The types of translation work include localisation and transcription (and subsequent translation), as well as translation per se. I translated business games, academic essays, and presentations of beauty products. I also occasionally work as a proofreader both for translations and for original texts.
With interpreting, my experience includes working on an outside broadcast for the BBC, at various business meetings, and at the embassies.

In 2012 a book was published that I translated from English into Russian, "Growing Up: Your Changing Body" by Gerry Bailey. In early 2013 Palgrave published a book on the art of clownery, quoting an extract from my 2003 translation of an interview with Slava Polunin.

My expertise as a professional translator lies predominantly in the fields of Arts, Social Sciences, Media, Tourism, Beauty and Fashion, and Advertising. I have been educated or worked in all of these areas, hence an in-depth knowledge of and passion for all of them. Here I often use both Eng-Ru and Ru-Eng pairs. I also take on projects in Retail and Management, since these are the fields I have also had the chance to work in, but here I give preference to Eng-Ru.

I am very punctual, with a great attention to detail, and a genuine love for language.
