Source text - English The heritability of serum urate concentrations is estimated at 40−70% (refs. 10–12), which justifies the search for its genetic determinants. Previous genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have so far identified 11 genomic loci associated with urate concentrations and gout. Together, SNPs at these loci explained about 5–6% of variance in serum urate concentrations, suggesting that additional loci remain to be identified. We therefore aimed to identify and validate variants associated with serum urate concentrations in >140,000 individuals of European ancestry and with gout in approximately 70,000 individuals in the GUGC. These variants may provide a basis for the identification of new potential therapeutic targets for gout.
Translation - Spanish Se estima en 40-70% la heredabilidad de las concentraciones de ácido úrico sérico (ref. 10-12), lo que justifica la búsqueda de sus determinantes genéticos. Los estudios anteriores de asociación del genoma completo (GWAS, por sus siglas en inglés) han identificado hasta el momento 11 locus del genoma asociados a concentraciones de ácido úrico y gota. Al mismo tiempo, los SNP de estos locus han justificado el 5-6% de la diferencia en las concentraciones de ácido úrico sérico, lo que parece indicar que quedan otros locus sin identificar.
