Spanish term
Título de Diplomado
Spanish to English

Education / Pedagogy
I have searched the previous threads and I am still having trouble finding a good English equivalent between "título de Diplomado" and "certificado." Below is a sample sentence found in the curriculum for a "Diplomatura en Community Management."
Los estudiantes no obtendrán el título de Diplomado sino que tendrá derecho únicamente a recibir un Certificado de Aprobación del Curso.
I'm completely lost with this expression. Originally I thought it was a certificate given that the course is only 5 months. However, given the consequence as described below (students who fail to submit their final project on time, but still receive a passing grade will receive a "Certification of Completion (¿?)" for having passed the course.

Degree
Diploma versus certification,
the distinction is as if it where an degree versus a license.
For instance in the US you can study law and get a J.D. but until you actually pass the bar and obtain your license - you can't practice.

Example sentence:
Tengo un titulo, un diploma - ahora necesiti mi certificacion.
I have my diploma (my degree) - now I need my certification.

: I think this is not the case: first comes the certificate (only by passing the course) and then the diploma (upon submission of final project).

(qualification of) diploma
I would go with 'Diploma' and 'Certificate of Completion'.
Diploma: a certificate awarded by an educational establishment to show that someone has successfully completed a course of study. I would use this rather than degree given the shortness of the course and the entry qualifications.
What makes matters confusing is that sometimes a certificate of completion is not an assurance people have fulfilled all training requirements of a vocational or academic program. In high school, students who don’t earn a diploma for various reasons might earn this completion certificate instead.
