Spanish term

invitados de cortesía protocolarios

Spanish to English Law/Patents Law (general) Estatutos club deportivo - Colombia
From the by-laws (estatutos) of a polo club in Colombia.

A search for "invitados protocolarios" returns an unusually high proportion of results from Colombia, so I think I might be missing something here.
Also, this needs to be distinguished from mere "invitados de cortesía", which is the next category; the difference between the two is that "protocolarios" are invited by the Board of Directors or chairperson for up to a year, whereas "invitados de cortesía" may be invited by the Board of Directors or chairperson, but also by any member of the club, for up to 120 days.

Any ideas for this? Into U.S. English.

(Col.) private guests invited according to courtesy protocol

'When in doubt, leave out', but protocolario really shouldn't in any answer, even if ambiguous for social protocol or the record of a notary.

Intriguing that Colombia is now competing with the Argentinian polo tradition. One is reminded of the song 'Im in with the in-crowd'.

Thx. I had been expecting a too long or 'overtranslated' comment.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thank you Adrian; this basically fits the bill. In the end I used "courtesy guests invited according to protocol" as it tied in better with the broader context of this particular article of the by-laws."

Note from asker:
Thank you. It's the "protocolarios" part that's causing me most grief. The problem is this needs to be distinguished from "invitados de cortesía" (see post).
