diminished its noble patina of time Explanation: Am găsit resursele de mai jos: Charming old door from the 18th century in its patina of time with very beautiful period ironwork (handle and rosette, latch). https://www.antikeo.com/en/catalog/materials-and-elements-of... Ludwig: https://ludwig.guru/s/patina of time -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 28 mins (2022-02-23 13:12:14 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- It's the first time I come across this word, so I cannot say for sure, but I believe patina of time/patina timpului developed into an expression, where time doesn't have that much of a meaning anymore in either language. But to answer your question, I do believe that, in a way, "of time" emphasizes the fact that the process occurred gradually, over a longer period of time. Hope this helps. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 31 mins (2022-02-23 13:14:53 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- I also found "patina" in the dictionary, on its own, so I believe it can be used independently, without using the addition "of time". -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 57 mins (2022-02-23 13:41:27 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- I think both "aging patina" and "patina of time" can be used interchangeably. I do not feel that there is a difference in meaning, though I cannot say for sure, it is the first time I encounter this expression. Am example for aging patina: https://www.alamy.com/a-vintage-sundial-with-an-aging-patina... |
