Hi, (Sorry if this has been covered before) I recently bumped into an OCR program called Capture2Text thinking it would help me transform the Chinese images in documents I receive to translate into text. However, I am having a problem with the program, as it's default languages does not include Chinese. I tried a bunch of times to download the Chinese add on, installed it, but cannot figure out how to make the program know that it's there.

Hi, (Sorry if this has been covered before) I recently bumped into an OCR program called Capture2Text thinking it would help me transform the Chinese images in documents I receive to translate into text. I tried a bunch of times to download the Chinese add on, installed it, but cannot figure out how to make the program know that it's there.

My question is, are there any other programs for PC (Mac too I guess) that are ACCURATE at reading the Chinese images? A year or two ago, I bought Read I.R.I.S. Pro Asian but its OCR capabilities are pretty horrible. It gives me a pretty much unreadable file.

Please advise?

Thanks

I use a freebie called Hanwang. It's not amazing - I quite often have to manually show it where the text is - but once it gets going the accuracy is pretty good.

OmniPage & Finereader Aug 30, 2014

Here's a comparison of desktop ocr software; I know that OmniPage and Finereader support both traditional and simplified Chinese by default, don't know about the rest.

I don't know why they tested the old Finereader 10 instead of 12 but that's their problem.

As for OmniPage, they do not have the try and buy option for their desktop version but they have a cloud version.

I'm certain there are Chinese companies offering cloud ocr solutions, but when privacy is an issue, desktop versions are better. It is ok for test purposes.

Problem with installing both programs Aug 30, 2014

Hi, sorry didn't reply sooner, actually Proz.com wouldn't let me log in and then reply for some reason. Anyway, I tried installing both the programs you mentioned above, but couldn't get it to completely install. Both programs, when I tried to install it, said that there was an I/O operation overriding the installation or something...I contacted Microsoft Windows and I spent the wee hours of the morning trying to figure it out, but neither one of us could.
