it may also mean, but there is no talk about distributing wealth or about inheritance (although it is a feature that capitalism is emerging). However, what is your idea about کام‌جویی, does it mean?

I think my understanding of this is confirmed by this text. The writer is describing a more modern society. Making wills...vasiatname...was becoming more common. It was a way for anyone to direct how his wealth should be distributed after his death.

It is a part of the book "Family and Civilization" by Carl Zimmerman.
This is the paragraph:
"In time, the ideas of the church on the family triumphed over trusteeism. In
our late Middle Ages (from the twelfth century on) the domestic conception
became increasingly dominant. The age of heroes was over. Society could no
longer understand a family system like that described by Beowulf. The Morte
d’Arthur, a similar epic poem (applying to fifth-century England but published
later by Caxton), loses its original characteristics and becomes unrecognizable as
an early, or primitive, epic. No longer was knighthood in flower. Great social
changes took place, such as business, trade, commercial revolution, household
factories, the inclosure acts, and the revival of Roman law under canon law
principles. A new spirit began to dominate society. Will-making now became
more and more an accepted right. The period of interest-taking, profit-making,
and capitalism was under way."

Here is no talk of law or legal issues, but may be because wealth is transferred through will, it is an example of domination of profit-making and capitalism in general.

The suggestions do not make sense to me.
I think this refers to "making wills"

به نظر می رسد با توجه به بافت متن که در رابطه با سودجویی است عبارات "منفعت طلبی/نفع طلبی" در اینجا همخوانی بیشتری داشته باشند

It seems to have been made to rhyme with profit-making, and the meaning is close to تعیین سرنوشت.
