I fully understand your point. And it probably makes sense if you live in France, respectively Germany. Unfortunately, the Romanian market is an emerging one. Which means that this industry is not well established, prices are ridiculously low and also many amateurs call themselves ''translators''. Internationally, maybe I could charge EUR 100.00/hour for consulting services. And it would seem perfectly reasonable.

But locally that would be impossible. You will probably feel shocked at the low rates that exist here: e.g. a translation agency that is ''courting'' me for several weeks now is very surprised that I do not work for 10 RON/page (i.e. 2.5 euros for approx. 270 words, which comes to 0.009 EUR/word !!!). And imagine this is a rather decent price, accepted by many ''translators'', especially the ones living in rural areas. So, maybe in 20 years we could envisage such a consulting fee...

I would either call or write the company and say something like: I've noticed that these little 3-4-5 word translations are starting to add up and I really feel I have to charge something for them. How about if I keep track of them and when they reach (xxx amount), I'll invoice you?

Or something similar...

This is an option to obtain a free translation....Posting this here might trigger such ideas.
It seems that this tactic might already be in use based on some of the (multiple) questions posted here.

I wouldn´t care if the client vanishes in such a case, because he is not (longer?) providing me with regular, well paid work. He is offering mini-jobs instead that are more hindering than anything else, and I don´t need this in my regular work flow.

It is good for me if he does agree to the terms I mencioned above, but it is also good if he doesn´t and stops requiring my services: I win either way. I think it is a good way of filtering clients that I also had to apply once in a slightly different situation.
