How it is with retranslation? I mean If I would like to retranslate a play, which had been translated by someone else long time ago, how can I avoid plagiarism? Is the plagiarism inevitable?

Any normal translation motivated by a desire to improve an existing translation that is outdated or less than ideal in terms of quality clearly seems to be in no danger of accusations of plagiarism. If there is a genuine need for a retranslation, then your good judgement should be more than sufficient to keep you out of trouble. ▲ Collapse
