Hi,

Here is the press release from the (US) National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters.

Also, you can see that more languages (Mandarin, Russian, Cantonese, Vietnamese, and Korean) will be added to the certification program.

"National Board earns NCCA Accreditation
The National Board has achieved a goal it has been working for since its inception. It is now accreditated by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).

For complete details, please read our latest newsletter [HERE or] at http://www.certifiedmedicalinterpreters.org/sites/default/files/CMI-TIDES-WINTERJan2013.pdf

The National Board is also happy to announce that all five of the pilots for the oral certification exams in Mandarin, Russian, Cantonese, Vietnamese, and Korean are completed! The Russian and Mandarin exams have been validated and the others are in the validation process. The Board will be launching the Russian oral certification exam very soon. Mandarin will be next and then the others will follow.

The National Board takes this opportunity to give a big thanks to the State of Oregon OHA Office of Equity and Inclusion for the grant making this possible, all the wonderful interpreters who volunteered for the pilot and the many supporting organizations coast to coast who participated by hosting the pilot exams. This project took a huge team effort over many months and we welcome the New Year - 2013 - with the expansion of the certification into more languages.

The National Board will not stop here - the goal is to have a credential for all medical interpreters in all languages. Stay tuned!"
