I'm running NXT in Parallels Desktop (WinXP, 32) and since my termbase is growing (almost 700.000 term pairs now) I'd like to investigate an alternative for MS SQL Express at the Windows side.

Can somebody help me with setting up a DB for Termstar at the Mac side?

Is this possible at all?

Thanks for your time,

Hans

Hi Hans,

Transit NXT works only with the following DBMS:

- Microsoft ACCESS
- Microsoft MSSQL and MSSQL Express
- IBM DB2
- MySQL
- Oracle

So I think that if it is possible to install one of those DBMS on your Mac you can do it (and I'm pretty sure that MySQL can be installed on Mac OSX "Jaguar").

Then you've to install the ODBC connector/driver for mySQL on your Parallels desktop (you can download it from MySQL website)

Hi Hans,

So I think that if it is possible to install one of those DBMS on your Mac you can do it (and I'm pretty sure that MySQL can be installed on Mac OSX "Jaguar").

Then you've to install the ODBC connector/driver for mySQL on your Parallels desktop (you can download it from MySQL website).

Finally you'll have to configure an ODBC connexion on you Parallels desktop to connect to this DB.

After that in Transit NXT you'll have to add new dictionaries in this DB (for the first one a message will prompt in Transit telling that there is no Termstar tables in the DB when you'll validate the message the needed tables are automatically created) then import your terms from the old dictionaries to the new ones.

I hope it will help.

If you need more info please tell me.

Jean-Marc

Hi and thanks for the extensive reply. I'm just wondering, why do you write 'Not possible' in the Title?

Any chance that you visit me in Holland or that we perform a Deskshare session?

(Of course I'll pay for your time ...)

You're right it was a wrong title!

Going to Holland will be a little hard for me right now

But yes we can plan a Deskshare session if you want.

Just tell me when you're available to do it.

Regards,

Jean-Marc
