"l'art populaire grec" with lots of fotos angιlique hagimihali you see: her name is written in different ways. Maybe you can tell me how you write her name in greek letters. But also if you do so: I do not know someone around who can read greek. I think that she is (or was) well known in Greece, because streets are named after her. She has written several books and was a busy ethnologist. Who could give me a hint where to find more about her or even people who are busy with greek folk art? "Αγγελική Χατζιμιχάλη" would be the name in Greek (you have to change your browser's font to Greek in order to read this). But I couldn't find anything about her in Google when I entered that name. Perhaps someone else knows? | | | Maria Karra United States Local time: 22:20 Member (2000) Greek to English + ... a few results from a web search | Dec 5, 2003 |
OK, I just found a reference to the book you mention in a Greek website (http://alex.eled.duth.gr/DUTH/Podies1/e.htm), where her last name is spelled "Chatzimichali". So if I search in Google for "art" and "Chatzimichali" I get some results. There is indeed a street with her name in Athens, and a Chatzimichali Folk Museum. Good luck. 4 different kinds op spellings. I am afraid greek translators have much more difficulties in finding information on www. Thank you for the links. Unfortunately they do not help me, cause nothing more than just mentioning her. Here you can read that she was "the most important Greek folklorist"... See more 4 different kinds op spellings. Here you can read that she was "the most important Greek folklorist" http://www.melissabooks.com/popularart/lace2.htm And I found this: Museum in Athens At 6 Hatzimichali St, has an important collection of ceramics, wood carvings, furniture and utensils from the collection of well-known ethnographer Angeliki Hatzimichali. It houses the folk art collection and library So Iam still wondering why there is no biography, photographs of a bit more like this about such an important person. I found two books about Angeliki Hatzimichali, but I don't know if they have been translated into other languages. The one with the title "Peripatos me tin Angeliki" (Published by Kaktos, 1999)is written by her daughter, Ersi, and is about her life. The other one is written by Dimitris Lazogiorgos - Ellinikos with the title "Angeliki Hatzimichali - I Ellinida pou fotise to genos" (Published by the Municipality of Athens) . Her dauther, Ersi, has criticised very strongly this author and his book as containing many faulse events. There is also a society of her friends named "Syllogos Filon Ergou Angelikis Hatzimichali". I found all the above information in the following web site: http://archive.enet.gr/2000/03/15/on-line/keimena/art/art3.htm but unfortunately for you is all written in Greek.
