Regarding El Quijote: In BBC radio 4 UK there is a serialisation of El Quijote in a new translation. The first episode was broadcasted 2 weeks ago, but it might be possible to find it in the BBC website. I agree 100%. It is always jarring to see "Mejico" instead of the correct "Mexico" | | |

Which "El Quijote"? | Jan 20, 2005 |
Before continuing this thread, I believe we should first establish which "El Quijote" we are refrring to? Are we talking about Cervantes' or Pierre Menard's? Because according to José Luis Borges, Menard's "El Quijote" is "much richer, though some may say more ambiguous, yet ambiguity is enriching". If Borges got it all wrong and Pierre Menard was not the author of "El Quijote", then for sure he must have been the MOST EXCELLENT TRANSLATOR ever! No doubt about that. ... Valentín Arias et alii, 1990 BTW, I once read that Cervantes really meant to say "no CREO acordarme" instead of "no QUIERO acordarme" ("I don't think I can remember instead" of "I don`t want to remember"). But I prefer the "wrong" version anyway... as a child, when I first started to read this wonder...
